First Nation Education Advocates

Our team is made up of First Nation Education Advocates, Elders/Knowledge Holders, Junior Advocates and specialists. We support individual students and their families. The team works with staff and community to promote an Indigenous, wrap-around, holistic approach to education.

Our First Nation Education Advocates:

  • Work to increase a sense of belonging, self-respect and pride in heritage for Indigenous students.

  • Provide support, guidance, advocacy, and support the delivery of authentic, culturally inclusive programming in schools and on the land.

  • Assist and mentor school staff to fully develop and deliver their own education programs that reflect Yukon First Nation culture and language.

  • Promote positive working relationships between students, families and school staff to improve the academic achievement of indigenous students.

  • Connect Indigenous students to the necessary services, supports and specialists, and ensure they receive help, including referrals to the YFNED Mobile Therapeutic Unit.
