Our teams have had great opportunities in the month of February to learn from and share with people doing great things in other parts of Canada. Many of our First Nation Education Advocates, as well as Elders and Youth traveled to Vancouver Island. They met with passionate staff from other programs to help widen their knowledge and experience. Our Executive Director Melanie Bennett was joined by the YFNED team of Elders, youth and staff for the AFN Languages and Learning Forum in Calgary. We are gathering with First Nations education and language leaders from across the country to share expertise, provide insight and promote negotiation skills on how to gain jurisdiction of First Nation Education – Languages, Post-Secondary and Regional Education Agreements were the topic themes. And in Vancouver, our team, including Finance Director Meg Potter and Director of First Nations Initiatives Kim Marie Rumley, had a great time at the GLOBE Series in Vancouver this week, sharing our vision for an Indigenous Kitchen Hub. Thanks to Elder Roger Ellis and Youth Advocate Isaiah Devilliers for helping explain how food, culture and education are so intertwined and vital to Yukon First Nations. Members of our Nutrition and Early Years team attended the Indigenous Relations Academy to close out the month.
