Save the date! Our 7th Annual First Nation Education Conference will be held on February 26 and 27, 2026, with a theme of “The 3Rs of Indigenous Education: Relationship, Reciprocity and Reconciliation.”

We have an amazing line-up of key-notes, presentations and hands-on workshops, plus delicious catering.

Keynote announcement and registration opens first week of January!

YFNED and the CCOE delivered an incredible presentation on the world stage at WIPCE (World Indigenous People's Conference on Education) in New Zealand at the end of November. Over 100 delegates from around the globe gathered to hear the story of how the CCOE, YFNED, and FNSB, are transforming education in the territory so that our Indigenous kids can thrive. The house was packed, the questions were flowing, the conversations and connections post-presentation were meaningful.

Afterwards, they offered a public Dene Hand Games demo that was also a hit!

Well done team!

All families with Indigenous kids aged 0-5, whether registered with our program or not, are welcome to attend our drop-ins. There will be snacks, activities, beading and knitting supplies, and a chance to see our space and meet the Early Years team.

This fall, the First Nation Education Advocates delivered and supported a variety of cultural, community-building, and land-based programs across local schools. We supported culture camps at Hidden Valley Elementary, Selkirk Elementary, Takhini Elementary, Elijah Smith Elementary, and Christ the King Elementary. Activities ranged from hand games, drum making workshops, archery, rabbit skinning, and more.

We welcomed two grades from Elijah Smith Elementary at our land-based camp, Ama Ku, for an immersion in land-based activities.

We hosted a Super Mario Kart Extravaganza in our gathering space, Alaashedal, bringing 6 Indigenous students together for fun, connection, and friendly competition.

We participated in several horse camps at Heart Bar Ranch, with up to three Indigenous students attending each day.

Seven Indigenous students from Christ the King took part in a drum-making workshop — from start to finish! To honour their drum-making work, we will be hosting a Drum Awakening Ceremony on December 1 at 1:00 p.m. in the Christ the King outdoor culture space.
