Just over a month after our 6th Annual First Nation Education Conference wraps up and we are still energized and inspired by all the incredible people - participants, speakers, and performers - who came together to move First Nations education forward in thoughtful, meaningful and interactive ways.

April Feast

Spring Break camps!

YFNED held two weeks of Spring Break programs jam packed with awesome activities. Just look at all the things the kids learned last week - from cooking to esthetics, knife and paddle-making to archery! They might have been out of school right now, but these Indigenous youth have been learning lots.

MTU Allied Health literacy camp in Ross River

This March Break, Ross River was full of space adventures, jungle exploration and deep ocean diving! Members of our MTU allied health team led a literacy day camp focused on reading, telling stories, learning about letters and sounds, and using imagination and art to explore these concepts.

Each day had a unique theme: group games, scavenger hunts, big collaborative art, social toys and play, gross motor activities outside and in the gym, extra-special crafts, and—of course—stories! Kids were able to explore and re-tell the stories through our activities and crafts. Each child also received one-on-one time to focus on reading skills. Our team was thrilled to be part of such a joyful and interactive week!

Making drums with CAFN

Over March Break, our Wellness Team from the Mobile Therapeutic Unit offered a week-long Spring Break drum-making workshop in partnership with the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations' Takhini Youth Programming out at Takhini subdivision.

Eight kids made their own hand games drum that week with the support of Bradley Joe-Malegana and others from the Wellness Team.

Look out for these stellar drums at the next youth hand games tournament!
