Declaration on JEAP This summer, at the CYFN General Assembly, the First Nation Education Commission presented a declaration that secured commitment from Yukon Government to finalize the Joint Education Action Plan (JEAP) implementation plan. New FNEC Chair At the August 12 meeting of the First Nation Education Commission (FNEC), the commissioners appointed Ashley Bower-Bramadat as their new Chair, taking the torch from Melanie Bennett (ED of YFNED) who has held the position for the past six years and has been a sitting member for over a decade. Ashley lives in Dawson City on Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Traditional Territory (THTT), has spent all her years working, living and being on THTT, and has a daughter that is a Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in citizen. Ashley has previous experience working as an Early Childhood Educator, an Educational Assistant at Robert Service School, a Cultural Education Coordinator in the Heritage Department running culture camps, a CELC and now the Hatrunohtun Zho Manager (School House) Manager for Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Education. Ashley is looking forward to seeing everyone in October at the next FNEC meeting. FNEC is made up of Education representatives from Yukon First Nations. They provide technical support, advice and recommendations to the Government of Yukon on matters related to First Nations Education. YFNED administers FNEC, who in turn direct YFNED to develop educational resources.
